Little Mt Ross:
Mount Ross Station was mapped by Michael Wood, Mapsport Services.
First used at the 1998 National Champs.
Little Mount Ross is a section of this map.
Scale 1:2,500 – Contour interval 2.5m.
Complex goldmining sluicing area, relatively open with multiple rock features.
Wear gaiters and your oldest socks - the grass seeds in the area are very hard to remove.
Starts from 3pm - 5pm.
Event Centre start/finish within 300m of parking.
We can start up to 4 at a time on course 1, and 2 at a time on course 2. So come as a group and run against each other.
3 courses; a longer and a shorter Red/Orange, and an Orangey/Yellow:
Course 1 RO 1.8km – 22 controls (<40m climb)
Course 2 RO 1.2km – 13 controls
Course 3 YO 0.9km – 16 controls.
All courses have less than 50m climb and starts are at 1 minuite intervals.
Yellow or White competitors can either do the shortest course together in pairs, or together with a more experienced helper / shadow, after their helper has done their own course.
SI Air; punching start
There will be no loose control descriptions as there are different versions of the same course starting simultaneously.
Note if coming from Dunedin, it is the Outram Rodeo this day. Horse floats and trucks will be turning off SH87 into their parking area. Allow extra time for slowing traffic through Outram, and be cognisant that the famous Outram Four Square ice creams may have to be queued for if it's a hot afternoon.
Head towards Middlemarch along SH87. Sutton is 6.8k south of Middlemarch. If coming from Dunedin turn right at Sutton onto Mt Ross Road (some apps, maps and signs call this Sutton-Mt Ross Rd).
This turnoff is on a bend so be careful.
The event is signposted from this point.
After turning right, turn right again after 350m to stay on the Mt Ross Road. Proceed over the Taieri River til you come to a junction. Turn right still on Mt Ross Road and follow your nose to parking. Park as directed.
