What type of tutoring is offered at the HUB?
Drop-in tutoring - Available to all DHS students, drop-in tutoring is available whenever the HUB is open! We have a friendly and well trained team of tutors to help scholars with their academic subjects. Scholars are welcome before school, during GAEL period, during lunch, and after school. While we cover pretty much ever subject DHS offers, we don't cover all subjects all hours. Be sure to check the subject schedules to see when tutors are available for each subject.
FOCUS - Students not in good academic standing are assigned to FOCUS classes instead of GAEL period. Students in FOCUS learn organization and study skills in addition to getting help in their academic classes. This class is mandatory, like any other class, but when students have brought their grades up and sustained those improved grades for a significant length of time, they will move back into the GAEL period.
Single-Subject Mandatory tutoring - Mandatory Tutoring is assigned by teachers to students who need a little extra help in a subject, but do not need to be assigned to a FOCUS class. Teachers fill out the mandatory tutoring purple form. This is the contract between student and teacher. Tutors will work with any student who brings in a purple Mandatory Tutoring Form. Tutors do not follow up to close the loop with teachers or follow the students to ensure they work with tutors the required number of times.
