DUSD Graduation Requirements include 20 credits (2 full years) of PE. Students in Grades 10 and 11 who participate in an EHS sport may receive a 5 credit exemption for each EHS sport/season they compete in. Freshmen are required to take Freshman PE and are not eligible for an exemption. Seniors who have not yet earned their 20 credits must be enrolled in PE to ensure they can graduate.
Important Considerations:
-You must accumulate at least 75 eligible hours in your sport and complete the season to be eligible for a 5 credit exemption. Eligible hours include practices, conditioning, and games that are directly supervised by your coach. Hours are tracked and verified by your coach, and the granting of a PE exemption is at their discretion.
-If you are injured or have an extended illness, you must bring a copy of your doctor’s medical note to the Athletic Director as soon as possible. There is no option for partial Athletic PE exemption. If you cannot complete the 75 hour requirement, you will have to make arrangements to fulfill your credits at a future date.
-If you quit the sport mid-season, you are not eligible for a PE exemption, even if you had already fulfilled the 75 hour requirement prior to quitting.
-No grade or credits will be awarded, but you will be exempt from 5 credits of the PE graduation credit requirement for each sport/season completed. A maximum of 5 exemption credits can be earned in a particular season (i.e., fall sports), and there is a maximum of 10 credits of PE exemption that can be accumulated while enrolled at EHS.
-Hours with outside club teams do not apply. The exemption only applies to participation in the Emerald High School Athletic program.
-Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA (or have an Athletic Probation Contract on file) in order to remain on their team.
-Students who are dropped from their team due to academic or disciplinary reasons and therefore do not complete the season will not earn PE exemption credit.
-The Athletic Director will verify which athletes are eligible for a PE exemption with each Head Coach at the conclusion of each season.
