Academy Declaration & Checkin Timeline

Sophomore Year - Academy Declaration: When students are sophomores enrolled in a PLTW Engineering or Computer Science course, they will declare their interest in completing the Dublin Engineering and Design Academy. This model is all student driven and must be worked on over a 3-year period while they are students of Dublin High School. Please note that this form should be used only for students in the sophomore year, AND currently enrolled in their first or second PLTW engineering or computer science course. The Declaration Form will open August-November of each school year.

Junior Year - DEDA Junior Checkin: All juniors that declared in their sophomore year, will complete this check-in form in the fall to confirm their continued participation and intent to complete. Please note that the Junior Check-in responses will be used to generate senior interview slots, so failure to complete this check-in would indicate you no longer want to complete your Engineering Certificate. The Junior Checkin Form will be open August-November of each school year.

Senior Year - DEDA Senior Checkin: All seniors that completed the Junior Checkin, will complete this check-in form in the fall to confirm their completition of their Engineering Certificate. Be prepared to share information about certificate completion requirements (i.e. speakers, trips, internships, etc.) as well as what additional supports are needed during your senior year. The Senior Checkin Form will be open August-October of each school year and Senior Exit Interview Sign-ups will be sent to these student responses in January.

Be sure to join our Engineering Academy Canvas Classroom for a list of upcoming opportunities and events. Frequent announcements and reminders will also be done through Canvas and through Canvas Class Pages.

Please note that completion of the requirements and adhering to the code of conduct to earn the Engineering Certificate and remain in the Academy are the student's responsibility only - not a parents' or teachers' or counselors'. If there is an error in scheduling or a student needs help with completion of any required items, they should be proactive and reach out early to our counselor, Ms. Halket (halketkim@dublinusd.org) or the coordinator, Ms. Chou (choueugene@dublinusd.org)!

Academy Pathways

All DEDA tudents will work towards completion of a Career Technical Pathway (CTE). These pathways will designate what specialization courses you should take as well as what industry sector your pathway aligns with. All students still have the same requirements and are part of the same Academy, just under different pathways. Please read the descriptions below for more information about each pathway and note that there may be pathways taken that are not shown below.

Engineering Pathway

This pathway is designed for students interested in studying mechanical, civil, electrical, manufacturing, computer hardware, and engineering design. These courses focus on the design and construction of physical objects while learning the governing scientific and mathematical principles involved.

Computer Science Pathway

This pathway is designed for students interested in information technology, software engineering, networking, programming, and computer hardware. This pathway focuses on designing software systems while learning the computational logic and governing mathematical principles involved.

DHS Engineering Certificate Requirements

To earn the DHS Engineering Certificate upon graduation, students must have no incidences of academic dishonesty or behaviorial referrals on record and accomplish the following.

Coursework: Be enrolled year-long and earn a passing grade in the following electives:

Online Portfolio: Create an Online Portfolio that meets the following requirements:

Career Exploration: Participate & successfully complete one of the following (which must be written about with proof shown of completion in their Online Portfolio):

Academy Completion

During senior year, students must complete an online application and submit their portfolio for review by Academy staff. If all requirements are verified as met and portfolio is deemed satisfactory by Academy staff, students will earn a special distinction on their transcript indicating their participation in the Dublin Engineering and Design Academy. Students will be awarded a certificate at Senior Awards and receive an engineering cord to wear during commencement. Seniors should look out for emails and Canvas announcements about completion requirements and interview scheduling.
