Karrer Middle School
Karrer Middle School
Newsletters from each of your child's teachers will begin next week (8/23/21) for our first full week of school!
Dear Karrer Families-
What a fantastic start to the year! Thank you to parents and students for arriving on time, for being prepared for each day, and for your flexibility as we welcomed over 870 students this week! This week we held virtual "town hall meetings" with each of our grade levels, where both Mr. Blake (KMS Assistant Principal) and I outlined the character pillars of Karrer: Kindness Always; Respect and Responsibility; Empowering Leadership. We are looking forward to a very successful year together!
OPEN HOUSE
On Tuesday, 8/24/21, we are inviting all parents/guardians to join us for an open house, from 6:30-8:30. The purpose of the open house is for you to meet each of your child's teacher, see our building, and welcome you as an important partner in our building. This is not a time for individual parent/teacher conferences; conferences will be a date later in the Fall that will be communicated as we get closer to that time.
Your child will bring home a schedule this Monday evening (8/23) that they will have pre-filled out with their classes and room numbers for Open House. Please ask them for this paper on Monday evening and bring it with you Tuesday. We look forward to seeing you then!
WASHINGTON DC
Also on Tuesday evening (8/24/21), we will host an 8th grade Washington DC Parent Meeting at 5:45 in the commons. The trip is planned for this March, and the director/owner of Prodigy Tours will be on site to discuss the itinerary and payment plans. Please note that scholarships will be available for those families who need financial support. All eighth grade parents/guardians should plan to attend this informational meeting.
Thank you for your collaboration-
Brooke Menduni
Students did a great job learning the "ins and outs" of our cafeteria and lunch lines this week, and we saw many smiles as they saw friends from last year and began to make new friends! Back again this year, we do have three microwaves for student use, which opens more menu options to those who wish to pack their lunch!
As a reminder, I let students know each day this week that on Monday (8/23/21) where they select to sit will be their assigned seat. ***Please note that if there is an extraneous circumstance (someone is absent, doesn't like their seat, etc) we will work with students to find a seat they want to sit in!*** Assigned seating will help us with any contact tracing that may need to be completed in the future, as well as expedite finding students who might need to leave for an appointment or pick up a forgotten lunch.
We also reminded students that although face coverings should be completely removed for lunch, once food is consumed students should again place their face coverings back on. Thank you for helping to support this message with your child.
Each week, I will send updates to all KMS parents/guardians, outlining up and coming events, registration for clubs/activities, and general happenings in and around our school. Please note that as a Karrer student who is registered for the Virtual Academy this semester or school year, these messages include each of you as my target audience. You are still very much a part of the KMS community, and although Mrs. Schulties (director of VLA) will be sending her own newsletter to you specific to schedules and events, you are also always welcome and included here at Karrer!
Automated attendance calls start Monday
Parents of students marked with an unexcused absence will receive automated notification calls beginning Monday.
