IB Biology HL allows students to develop a broad understanding of biology principles related to several core areas of biology including Cells, Chemistry of Life, Genetics, Ecology and Evolution and Human Health and Physiology. IB Biology allows students to investigate issues that have a global impact such as climate change, energy usage, deforestation, and the ethical implications of biotechnologies such as cloning and genetic engineering.
IB Biology incorporates a variety of instructional methods including lecture, cooperative learning, research and laboratory exercises. There is an emphasis on investigation and experimental design in which students will formulate hypotheses, design and conduct controlled experiments, draw conclusions and communicate their results. This course fulfills the advanced science graduation requirement.
Wish to obtain a strong background in the biological sciences
Want to learn in a hands-on environment
Want to design their own experiments
Want to explore biology from a global perspective
Are interested in pursuing a career related to the biological sciences or health-related fields
IB Biology is a great class designed to promote in-depth thinking of biology and chemistry. Biology goes into more complex details of process, organelles, reaction, and much more making people have a better understanding of the world around them. Labs are used for further in-depth evidence, and the ability to create your own lab allows people to have an understanding of how many trials, levels, procedures, materials, and statistical significance. It allows people to use their brains and create a lab from scratch with no instructions so that they can become true biologists. If any incoming Juniors and Seniors want to take this class, be prepared to learn and utilize many skills.
