IB Psychology SL

There are three main components to the IB Psychology SL course.

The study of Biological, Cognitive, and Sociocultural approaches to understanding human behavior.
Conducting an experiment for the Internal Assessment.
Study of abnormal psychology, in an attempt to understand the causes and subsequent treatments of mental illnesses such as depressive disorders, eating disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, trauma, and stress-related disorders.

The course is completed in 1 year. College credit can be obtained with a score of 5 or above on the 7 point scale.

This course is for students who...

would like to gain a greater understanding of themselves and others by studying topics such as mental illness, addiction, adolescent development, and many others
prefer to focus on a depth as opposed to a breadth of understanding
benefit from hands-on experiences like participating in, and conducting psychological experiments
are interested in seeing many perspectives about human behavior by looking into global and cultural theories regarding human behavior
yearn for feeling a sense of belonging and efficacy in their classes
may want to pursue a career in the field - psychology is one of the top undergraduate majors (see Career Connection below)
