What is a school counselor?

A school counselor advocates for their students and student's families, their staff and their community. They work to meet the social emotional, academic, career and college needs of their students. They build a comprehensive program that includes classroom and group lessons as well as meeting the more specific social emotional needs of individual students.

What does Mrs. Strine, the school counselor do?

*Listens to and helps students problem solve.

*Advocates for students.

*Meets with students one-on-one as needed.

*Meets with students in small groups for skill building.

*Visits each classroom monthly during the year, to teach health/guidance lessons.

*Consults with parents and teachers regarding children's concerns.

*Establishes a kind, inclusive, nurturing learning environment for all.
