The Centre for Disability Studies (CDS) and the Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC), University of Delhi, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Ghaziabad Smart City and Ferolite Jointings Ltd., organized a special distribution event for visually impaired students. As part of this initiative, Jyoti AI Smart Glasses and Saarthi Smart Canes were distributed on Wednesday, 2nd April 2025 at the Satyakam Building Auditorium, North Campus, University of Delhi. The event aimed to empower students with advanced assistive technology to enhance their mobility and independence.
As per the instructions from the President’s Secretary, the Amrit Udyan at Rashtrapati Bhavan was opened exclusively for Persons with Disabilities on February 26, 2024. The Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, sent a letter to the Equal Opportunity Cell for the Grand Purple Fest. The Equal Opportunity Cell of Delhi University set up a stall at the event to highlight its activities and work. The Equal Opportunity Cell also distributed pamphlets to visitors, detailing its efforts toward the all-round development of life skills and ensuring the complete inclusion of persons with disabilities in all spheres of life. More than 1500 visitors visited the stall and obtained information about the EOC, Delhi University.
On January 4th, 2024, Braille Day was celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the inventor of Braille, which has transformed how visually impaired individuals read and communicate globally
The University of Delhi hosted "Mann ki Baat: Empowering Divyangjan. A Dialogue on Social Transformation" on April 27, 2023. During this event, the Honorable Vice Chancellor and university officials highlighted the critical importance of inclusion, opportunities, and support for persons with disabilities. They have also highlighted the significance of Mann ki Baat in the context of Divyangjan.
Additionally, the Office of the Equal Opportunity Cell arranged a trip to the Auto Expo at Greater Noida on October 12, 2022, for disabled students from the University of Delhi. This outing, facilitated by the NGO Nipman Foundation, allowed students to explore the latest car models on display.
The University of Delhi has celebrated its Centenary year from 1st May 2022 to 1st May 2023 through yearlong programs/ events, as a mark of commemoration of the historic Centenary year of the University. The University had organized a Centenary Run on 18.11.2022 as part of the Commemoration of the Centenary Year. Equal Opportunity Cell encouraged PwBD students to participate in the Centenary Run and several disabled students with the help EOC Office have actively participated in the Centenary Run.
On 23rd September 2022 International Day of Sign Languages was celebrated by Equal Opportunity Cell for deaf communities to recognize and promote the different sign languages around the world. Sign Language is an essential human right for deaf people and signs for human rights. A large number of participants joined the event and Equal Opportunity Cell aware the participants about the importance of Sign language and protecting the linguistic identity of people who are deaf.
The International Educational Excellence Program was a unique initiative launched under the vision of the Honourable Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi, Prof. Dinesh Singh. Aimed at providing students with disabilities international exposure in the field of inclusive higher education, the program sought to familiarize them with global technological advancements, teaching methodologies, and inclusive learning strategies. It was designed to broaden their perspectives and enhance their academic journey. The initiative was implemented by the Equal Opportunity Cell in collaboration with the British Council and overseen by a university-appointed working committee.
