Why are children expected to keep a Homework Planner?

Weekly homework planners are handed out at the beginning of each school week.

Every child should keep a planner  worksheet for the purpose of recording assignments and items to be remembered. The planner should be with your child at all times so he/she can copy the class assignments directly from the "homework board".  The assignments are written on the board each day upon arrival.

Every teacher lists the work on the board. If no work is give the student should write the word "none" next to the name of the subject. I will sign planners each at the beginning of each week after assignments have been entered properly. All assignments should be checked off when finished. The planner is the student's  responsibility. Parents may then see everything is completed by referring to them and having the child show what they did in preparing for school. Please sign this planner daily as it becomes a valuable tool of communication between us with your child being at the center of involvement.

Students are provided with 2 pocket poly folder if they do not have one already. One side should be marked for Home and includes all work and papers to remain at home. The other side should be marked "School" and includes homework or other important papers to be returned to school. (If you are purchasing folders, you can set one up at home before arrival for first day.) This system works best if parents can empty home contents nightly. (In our house we use a great big bin to store all of the terrific stuff that comes home which we are not yet ready to discard!) Organization plays a big part in the success of each student.  Practice of these  routines will influence success in the years to come.  Grade 2 is a huge year for learning and practicing organization skills!
