Make sure you scroll down to see the new activities each week. Have fun!

Students in Grades 1-3 are currently using this song to help them practise and rehearse their dances.

Learning Goal: We are learning to develop short movements inspired by simple stories, nature, or daily activities.

Each Grade has a different focus in Dance. For the first 2 weeks, please ask your child (regardless of their grade level) to explore locomotor and non-locomotor movements as they begin to create a dance phrase inspired by stories, sports, nature, and every day activities.

The 'Dance Monkey' song is below for your child to use as an audio file, they can use some of these dance moves to help them warm up. Ask your child to show you the '3 Little Pigs' dance. They can develop their dance by thinking of a sport, story, or something from nature to inspire their movements.

Welcome back to another fun week of learning! Today is April 20th. Here is a fun way to warm up your body before you practise your own choreography this week!

Learning Goal: We are learning to move our bodies in different ways.

When you are practising your dance phrase, think of how you are using the BODY element. All grades can focus on Body. As we move through the rest of the term, we will practise all elements.

GRADE 1 FOCUS: BODY

GRADE 2 FOCUS: BODY SHAPE

GRADE 3 FOCUS: TIME

Here is the success criteria for the dance you are practising -->

Below is a description of our first element: BODY

Welcome back Grades 1-3 for another fun week of dancing! This week of April 27-May 1, we will be building on our skills by learning about body zones.

This week, pay attention to how your dance phrase uses the different body zones.

Your task is to challenge yourself to revise your dance, or add to it.

View and follow along to the first song (or as many as you like) on this video. Pay attention to how the dancers are using all 3 zones of the body.

Now, review the zones of the body and try and add more dance movements to your dance phrase, or revise the dance you have made so far!

May 4th-8th

We are learning about the element of space this week when we dance. Try moving through your home using different pathways. Try adding this element to your dance phrase. Can you create a Star Wars themed dance? Did you know Monday May 4th is 'May the 4th be with you day'.

If you like Star Wars, check out the choice board below for some fun ways to explore and learn. You can use this choice board to inspire your dance moves!

May 11-15

How can we use our bodies to show our emotions? Try and play some music that matches your emotions. Ask a sibling or parent, or choose on your own from the emotion cards below. Practise using these emotions in your dance. Don't forget about what we have learned so far about moving. Try using different levels, space, direction, and create big and small movements.

Now, let's review the criteria and look at animals! Can you try and improve your dance phrase by creating movements that resemble the animals below? Remember how we talked about how dance is inspired by nature? Let's try that again this week!

May 19th-22nd: This week we are learning about the Time. How can we use time to create an interesting dance phrase?

When you are working on your dance phrases this week, try and incorporate some different movements that follow the beat of the music, and also try to create movements that do not match the beat. See if you can freeze for a piece of the music, and start back up again on the beat!

Follow along to this dance lesson. Pay attention to the movements and how they follow along to the tempo and rhythm of the song!

May 25-29th. This week will work on Energy!

Let's look at the different ways we can move! Try using some of the daily activity cards to inspire a new dance move. Remember how we did this in class by acting out dressing for winter?

June 1-5. Let's look at Transitions! Try the examples below as you begin to polish your dance routine. Consider ways you can move from one dance space to another in a creative way that is entertaining for your audience!

June 8th-12th - Let's explore the Chinese Ribbon Dance!

If you can find a piece of material or a ribbon in your home, try attaching it to a stick in your yard. Follow along to the tutorial.

We have come to our last 2 weeks of school! Below you will find other dances you can explore. Use the lawn space you have or inside your home and try out these different dances or create a dance that tells a story of summer time using what you have reviewed on elements of Dance!

Try to create 2 spinners at home and copy the words below. Play by yourself or with a friend or family member. See how many creative movements you can make. Try to combine them together into a dance phrase!

Have a happy summer vacation!
