Our Top Ten Tips for Success in Online/Distance Learning
These are not listed in any particular order!
Pick a place in your home where you work well. Choose somewhere that is QUIET and with MINIMAL DISTRACTIONS. It is NOT recommended to use your bed to work since the purpose of your bed is for sleeping.
Ensure your working area is well lit, and free from unnecessary clutter.
Create a routine/daily schedule for yourself. Be reasonable with your work times (don't make them too long or short) and make sure you build in breaks for yourself. See this link for an example DAILY PLANNER and a WEEKLY PLANNER.
Organize yourself. Gather the supplies you will need and make sure your working space is organized (see #1, and #2).
Monitor yourself. Use a timer or watch to keep your working times chunked and manageable.
PUT YOUR PHONE AND VIDEO GAMES AWAY. Turn social media off on your computer while you work also.
CHECK-IN. Absolutely DO NOT HESITATE to reach out to your teachers to get updates on your progress. Ask questions and seek constructive feedback. Your teachers are all here for you!
Take care of your social, emotional and physical well-being. When this is in order, your school work will go much more smoothly. Make time to connect online or on the phone with friends and family, exercise, eat nutritious food, wash your hands regularly and practice physical distancing!
Maintain a POSITIVE ATTITUDE. This is a weird time but it will pass.
DO NOT FRET about your schoolwork. West Niagara Secondary School teachers are here for you and will do what we can to support you! Take a deep breath, be patient with yourself and with your teachers - we will all get through this together!
