This course offers an overview of visual arts as a foundation for further study. Students will become familiar with the elements and principles of design and the expressive qualities of various materials through working with a range of materials, processes, techniques, and styles. They will learn and use methods of analysis and criticism and will study the characteristics of particular historical art periods and a selection of Canadian Art and the art of other cultures.
Not all things are bio-degradable. This project explores consumer products from beginning to their end. Surprisingly many consumer projects end up forgotten in a land fill. Design principles such as balance, emphasis, rhythm and harmony will be vital to creating a captivating poster that sheds light on environmental issues new and old.
Throughout the course, students will study art pieces and periods, answering questions along the way. They will learn about famous painters of the time, and get to represent the artists styles in symbols that they create. These notes will lead up to the students' major projects, giving them the knowledge needed to complete the project. Any media can be used for the notes, as students can design them however they would like.
After learning about colour theory (contemporary colours), Ancient Egyptian art history and hieroglyphics, as well as 1960s Pop Art; grade 9 students are asked to amalgamate these unlikely art styles into an interesting, stylized, and colourful artwork
Students use their creativity and imagination to come up with the unique and new ways of picturing the popular story of The Wizard Of Oz. Any media can be used to create various textures , as students design and come up with any design they would like while conveying the theme.
Since the dawn of civilization, art has had a massive impact on the word around it. During the Grade Nine course we focus on the history from the prehistoric times all the way to the Greeks and Romans, covering thousands of years in between. You will look at pieces that are pivotal in history and what their impacts and inspirations were. You will also learn about the importance of the number "three" and what makes it pivotal and dynamic in art past and present.
