"There is an art to science, and a science in art; the two are not enemies, but different aspects of the whole.”
- Isaac Asimov
★ About Me ★
Hello, I'm Waverly Alcock! I am a scholar, an artist, and an advocate. Professionally, I am a senior at Drew Charter School, a Swim Instructor for DYNAMO Swim Schools, and an employee at the High Museum. As you may be able to tell, I pride myself on being multifaceted. It is essential to expand my experience and thus my knowledge broadly. Recently, through my role at the High Museum, I have aided in planning and organizing 11 events for teenagers to expand community involvement at the High. Additionally, I joined the Youth Participatory Action Research Team at Drew Charter. Within this group, I collected data on students via focus groups and surveys to identify school-wide concerns before presenting our data to the Board of Directors, Administration, and Teachers. However, these are only small parts of who I am; I urge you to explore my site!
★ Goals ★
As a High School Senior, a lot of my future is being mapped out before me. I find it easier to convey the person I want to be by describing who I am now. I
Collegiately, I am searching for a major in which I am thoroughly challenged, while also having a foundation of knowledge I can use to create positive change. Currently, I am interested in studying Policy and Applied Mathematics. These are compelling because I enjoy collecting and analyzing data to improve people's everyday lives. Additionally, I enjoy learning and implementing math equations and I understand math is a universal language for how the world works.
I am working on setting achievable goals and leaving room for growth. I understand that progress looks like trying and not every day can be perfect, so giving myself grace when things don't go to plan has been the most important part of my journey. That being said, I enjoy creating healthy habits and breaking down bad ones. Currently, I am taking a culinary class to better understand nutrition and how to cook for myself. Mental health is something I am very passionate about because I see it as the core of a person, if you are mentally not doing well then that will reflect on you interactions with others and your progress towards goals. This is why I prioritize mental health above all else in order to accomplish all of my goals.
As someone who thrives on structure, I am extremely goal oriented. Whether it be small steps or large accomplishments, I am confidant in my ability to create effective goals, both personally and professionally.
