Being a volunteer means helping a community or bettering a community. Charles R. Drew Charter School requires 100 service hours to graduate to ensure that we understand what community means. As well as learn how to be a leader and collaborate in new atmospheres. This also allows me to work with new people and practice communication for the betterment of society.

I began as a volunteer at Unearthing Farm & Market before I became the Farm's first summer intern. Within my role, I helped maintain the property, including caring for the free fridge and animals. My largest responsibility was developing a report on the plant species and removing invasive plants that overwhelmed the natural ecology. To the left, is the report I created, which has been utilized in applications allowing the farm to receive additional grants and funding.

STEAM Day, brings together all Drew students to dive deeper into STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) with fun, interactive activities, experiments, performances and games.

I volunteered to present and lead an activity with the middle school. My presentation was on how colors can change moods and the behavioral aspects of different colors. Then, we made bracelets for friends, family, and ourselves based on how we were feeling. I also showed the middle schoolers how pattern, symbols, and colors of beads change with different cultures and all the different techniques that beading can be incorporated into.

I volunteered at the Elementary Academy with my friend, Annabelle An. We taught second graders how to recycle and make paper. It was so much fun, all of the kids got to work together in groups of 4-5 to make a large sheet of paper. It was extremely interactive, and I loved seeing how curious they were and engaged with the lesson.

Kirkwood Neighbors' Organization: Environmental Committee
Kirkwood Neighbors' Organization: Environmental Committee
Kirkwood Neighbors Organization exists to encourage and advocate for high quality of life for all current and future residents of Kirkwood. This is done through strengthening the community, performing acts of service, and championing those of us who are most vulnerable. I work with the KNO's environmental committee to maintain neighborhood parks and historical sites.

American Red Cross
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Often, I provide health care workers at American Red Cross Blood Drives with home-cooked meals and drinks. As well as setting up before and cleaning up after the drives.
