Competitive Edge

Future Career Plans and Internship Opportunities

Desired Career Field: Archaeology

Selecting a school: The College of Wooster

  • Wooster is one of the only schools in the country to have an Archaeology department and major that is separate from Anthropology. Additionally, it is an amazing department with exceptional professors and opportunities. There is a wide range of classes that are offered from Intro to Archaeology to Geology of National Parks.

  • Additionally, one of the unique opportunities that Wooster presents its students with is the Independent Study Project. This project allows each student to work on their own research project relating to their desired major in their final year of college. However, some departments, including the archaeology department, have their students complete a Junior and Senior IS project. This gives the students vast experience with research and work in their desired career field, and builds a strong resume when entering the workforce.

Level of Education: Masters Degree or PH.D. will allow for the most opportunities.

Possible companies: National Geographic, The Smithsonian Institution, field projects, museums, universities, and more.

Archaeology Mentorship Research Project and Presentation ~ 2020~

During my first semester of the Competitive Edge class, I participated in a virtual mentorship with GSU Archaeology/Anthropology Professor, Nicola Sharratt. I was given the opportunity to work on the analyzation and data collection of a series of images taken at archaeological site, Maria Cupine, located in Southern Peru. This presentation displays the steps taken to understand the location and history of the ancient civilizations, how to go about the data collection and analyzation process, and includes my statistics and interpretations of the various images.

Archaeology Internship Phoenix Project (GSU)

During the spring semester of my senior year of high school, I had the amazing opportunity to intern at Georgia State University's Archeology Lab and with Anthropology Professor, Dr. Nicola Sharratt. I was assigned to help with an ongoing project called the Phoenix Lab, which involves the conservation and data collection of 19th-century artifacts collected in the 1970s during the construction of MARTA. This project has allowed me to gain hands-on experience that has not only enhanced my resume but has immersed me in Archaeology and Anthropology studies that will prepare me for my future studies.

Below are a few videos displaying the work that I have been conducting at GSU.....
