Overall Project Driving Question: How have the innovations and cultural expressions of ancient civilizations shaped the world we live in today, and how can we use this understanding of ancient city design and culture to reflect on current systems of power, privilege and exclusion in our own neighborhoods?
Innovations and cultural discoveries made in ancient civilizations can shape the world we live in today. Innovations made in ancient civilizations, such as democracy, are still used today in our government. From this, we know more about the beginnings of crucial systems still in place today, and can use our understanding to reflect on ways these innovations now shape our everyday life. Although many innovations derived from ancient civilizations have had positive effects, some have also contributed to problems in our world, such as misogyny and systemic racism, which have existed since the start of many of these ancient civilizations.

Driving Question: How can we use narrative writing—through plot, characterization, and other storytelling techniques—to showcase the achievements and cultural legacies of ancient civilizations in ways that help us appreciate and preserve the diverse cultures that shape our world today?
Narrative writing can be used in many ways to showcase the legacy and achievements of ancient civilizations. Using narrative writing devices such as plot and characterization, we can portray what ancient civilizations may have been like. This helps us to have a better understanding of what these historical figures and civilizations were like to further appreciate their contributions and long-lasting effects on society.
We also did thorough research on the civilization of Ancient Rome to include historically accurate information and details in our final project.

I (Director) worked with my teammates, Rhylan Davis (Timekeeper), Kalani Lanes (Script), Owen Bradley (Editor), and Jonah Paquette (Materials) to create a narrative script and video telling the story of the founding of Ancient Rome. We used materials such as costumes, props, iPads to film, and video editing software like CapCut to increase the quality of our final video.
Our video tells the story of the founding of Ancient Rome. For the sake of our narrative, we decided to change one of the main characters (Remus) to instead be a girl and end up being victorious over her brother in the end, causing the city to be named Reme instead of Rome in her honor. We also make references to the future, including innovations used today, such as bricks being mentioned in our video. I think we did well to accurately interpret the story of Romulus and Remus and the civilization of Ancient Rome. If I could change any aspect, I would try to incorporate more details about innovations made in Ancient Rome rather than putting the majority of our focus on the narrative.
