Abstraction in art began because artists wanted to start moving away from traditional art and the idea that all artists needed the same style. They also wanted to include feelings and emotions in art through abstraction rather than just images. Other cultures like African or Native American art use abstraction to show spiritual or community meanings. Abstract art connects with science and math by exploring shapes and patterns. Data can also be used to make abstract art by using numbers and algorithms and turning them into charts or graphs to create different pieces. I prefer to work in a more personally expressive way because I have more freedom to create art from what I like/ am interested in rather than using data where id feel boxed in and not as creative.
This year we have been taught about mandalas and have created our own version combining chemistry and world history. We added icons representing the number of electrons per ring for our element and we have taken what we have learned in world history like how the lotus flower represents purity, spiritual awakening, and faithfulness in Buddhism, and used that in our mandala as well. Recently we have made art pieces that were both still lifes but we used different principles and elements of design to differ between them. Such as we used value for one and color mixing for the other. When planning for a piece I create different sketches and ideas and then finalize my piece while taking pictures along the way to show my process. Some historic/famous art we have learned about so far is the artist Picasso.
This year in art class, I've learned about shapes, which also helps with the geometry part of math. So far, I've created a mandala inspired by electron configurations, showcasing patterns and colors. When planning an art piece, I explore various ideas through rough sketches, as I did with the "It's Elementary" project, which I can present by adding my sketches to our work slideshows. In class, we've studied impressionism, where artists use bright colors and short brushstrokes to convey the emotions and impressions of the subject.
This project integrates STEAM by merging the chemistry concept of electron configurations with the artistic creation of mandalas and their intricate patterns. Researching mandalas broadened my perspective as I discovered how different religions utilize them. Our project was successful due to our group's effective collaboration and cohesive ideas. If I were the teacher, I would allow students to have some say in choosing their groups.
In the project "Shaping Our World," we explored the culture, government, and lifestyles of ancient civilizations. We also learned about screenplay writing and developing a cohesive plot.
The project's main goal was to study an ancient civilization and a significant moment in its history.
In summary, we researched our assigned civilization to create a story about its history and culture.
How are mandalas used? How do they relate to world civilizations? What design principles are used? How could you use a mandala to depict an atom?
Mandalas are used in healing meditation by Buddhist monks, and therefore relate to Buddhist civilizations. In mandalas, some common principles used are pattern, balance, and rhythem.
We finished writing our scripts and decided who would play which characters. Over the next few days, we will independently start memorizing our lines.
We had a writing workshop with an actor/writer. We talked about developing characters and plots. then, we worked on our scripts
How could AI hurt or benefit art, and how it is related to other subjects?
AI could hurt art deeply, and already is, because AI is taking art from human artists without their consent, and using it to generate artwork for the public, meaning that people's art is being given out without the artist's consent or payment.
what is art and how does it relate to other subjects?
Art can be anything you want. people think that art has to have meaning but in reality everything has meaning. You just have to interpret it in your own way. It can relate to all subjects such as science for example mixing chemicals together can be considered art or even the atom models are art. Math can also be art, for example, but simply writing the numbers or making model for problems can be art aswell. Art can relate to anything you make it relate too.
Ela: 9/5/23
Today we choose our ancient civilizations we will be researching and creating a 5 minute video with our groups. I researched the Geography of Mecca which was a civilization apart of islam. We also chose muhammed as our who in our play and will be creating a video about his life.
ELA: 9/15/23
Today we completed a quiz on membean. We then did an IXL on identifying sentences with parallel structures. And finally we worked more on the script for out ancient civilization
ELA: 9/19/2023
Today we went over Hammurabi's code and discussed whether they should be used today. We completed our 15 minutes of Membean. Then we went over our scripts with another group and gave feedback on them while they gave feedback on us.
ELA: 11/28/23
Today in class we went over the main ideas/ important events going on in the chapters of book 2 of how the Garcia girls lost their accents. We also prepared for our literature circle on Thursday.
CHEMVAS art: Mandala Research
Mandalas are used as an aid to meditation, helping the meditator to envision how to achieve the perfect self. it appears in the art and architecture – in one form or another – of various cultures around the world. The term and accompanying image first appear in India, as noted, in the Rig Veda where it is also the name of the books which comprise the work. Repetition is one of the most visible principles of design in a mandala design. To show an atom in a Mandala you can have the nucleus be the center part of the mandala and have all the electrons and election clouds surrounding that area.
