Drew is a STEAM school that really lives up to its motto. The classes are small enough to get personalized attention and big enough to have a variety of different types of students. Drew helps each student live up to their potential and have an indiviualized education plan. Drew is unique in its aproach to education and it gives stdents a feel of how college & life after school will be. Many days, Drew's teachers show up before school starts and stay after school, just to tutor students. In addition, our principal, vice principal, cuncelors, and staff know each of our names, unlike the big public schools in APS. I have been attending Drew since second grade (7yrs old). My mother placed me into the school after hearing about it from family & friends. At the time, the predominatly African-American school was small and didn't go past middle school. It was far different from the school I had gone to before, Oakhurst Elementary in Decatur. Oakhurst was a mainly European-American school that was only filled with kids who's families could aford to live in the neighborood. However, when I transferred to Drew, I was able to become friends with people of different ethnicities, races, income levels, family sizes, religions, and genders. Although I didn't choose to, or want to transfer to Drew, it has been the defining factor of the best years of my life.
