Is Odysseus a Hero?

A hero is someone who does the right things and a hero solves problems. A hero who fits my description is Spiderman. Odysseys does not fit my hero description yet because all I've seen from him are menace activities.Odysseus is not a hero because he does not show heroic traits when he killed the cattle, messed with the Cyclops, and lost his men carelessly.

First, Odysseus is not a hero because he only shows reckless behavior and he’s selfish. In one of the books his men take cattle from one of the gods and Zeus punishes them. This means that his men did not care about the gods' belongings and cattle, and Zeus killed all his men. If Odysseus was a hero he would have told his men not to eat the cattle. Therefore he is not a hero to me.

Additionally Odysseus is not a hero because he messed with the Cyclops. In book 9 Odysseus decided it was a good idea to visit the land of the Cyclops. He decided to sneak into their cave. This shows that in their cave he could have the Cyclops alone and he would not have lost some of his men.This shows no leadership skills. 

On the contrary Odysseus may be viewed as a hero because he won the Trojan war. Before the Odyssey he found a way to infiltrate the base while hiding in a wooded horse. To me this does not show hero activity because heroes try to avoid fighting. Odysseus is not a hero because fighting is the last resort for a hero.

In contrast to Odysseus, Spider man is a hero because he puts others first. In Sspiderman 3, Sspiderman while fighting the villain goblin after spiderman won he tried to save goblins life. Unlike Spiderman, Odysseus aggravated the Cyclops intentionally and got his men killed. Odysseus is not a hero like Spidermnan and being unselfish he is selfish.

In conclusion Odysseus is not a hero.  Odysseus is not a hero because he killed the cattle, messed with the Cyclops, and lost his men carelessly. Even though some people believe he is a hero he is not. For example, to restate Odysseus' selfishness and personal needs led his men to death. Therefore that is my opinion on Odysseus being a hero.
