A Change is Going to Come

In AP Language, we created films as a part of our Change is Going to Come project. Each of our films had a different focus that meant something to the person who created it. My focus was change within oneself. There were other options related to topics like social justice but they did not seem as relatable as personal change. I decided on this topic because I personally have noticed that my personality and the way I see things now has changed a considerable amount.

There were many things involved in writing my script. I had to add allusions to things that happened in my past and present figures that people could trust such as older coworkers. My cross curricular element was history. To be specific, figures in the past who experienced personal change and changed the world because of it. My favorite quote from the entire script was also my closing statement. It read, “The takeaway was you have to roll with that change because, ultimately, that is life.”

The process of creating my film was long and slightly challenging. I had to gather up many pictures from my past and combine to create the finished product. I also had to do a considerable amount of recording. This was tedious but I feel like it was worth it in the end. I also ran it to problems with my filmmaking software but I eventually overcame that.

In the end I enjoyed watching my film but I am not completely satisfied with my work. I feel as if it was too personal and not enough hard data was added. However, I believe that it still gets the intended point across. Plus, even if the final product was not what I had hoped, the fact that I had the opportunity to just write down what I felt was incredibly enjoyable. This project really helped me define to myself what I believe so, in a way, I learned about myself.
