9th Grade Literature Project 1: Empathy Project

Summary: For our first project in 9th grade literature, we made a collage on a character in the Odyssey, and another character in a story that you heard of. When Odysseus goes on his nineteen year journey, one of his obstacles was the Cyclops Polyphemus. Odysseus enters Polyphemus’s house without being invited. Polyphemus gets back, and they are trapped in his cave. Odysseus assembles a plan, stabs Polyphemus in the eye. The next morning he escapes with less men then we he entered the cave on the underside of the sheep that Polyphemus lets out every morning. This reflects the story of Shrek, and how people entered his swamp without asking. In both of these cases Polyphemus and Shrek were made out as the bad guys, but they were just trying to protect their homes. Many people entered their houses, and when they retaliated it was a problem. When in reality the other party was wrong for entering their houses, and staying there without permission. For these reasons, Polyphemus and Shrek shouldn't be considered the bad guy, or rude because they were just protecting their homes.

For this project we made a poster on our Ap unit, combing what we learned to create this.
