Throughout this unit, students will apply 21st century skills of creativity and critical thinking, through the design process, to invent something useful to someone in their home or community. Students will interview various people within their community to identify a problem people may be facing. Students will then apply knowledge of light and sound to design an invention that solves an identified problem. Students will study past inventors to identify characteristics of an inventor (i.e.,creativity, perseverance). They will use what they learn to collaboratively brainstorm ideas for their invention. Students will use literature and technology resources to develop their ideas. Additionally, students will use materials from their various STEAM trunks to create their invention.
