To volunteer means to give your time, energy, or skills freely to help others or support a cause, without expecting anything in return. It’s about stepping up, being involved, and making a positive impact on your community.

Why would Drew require 100 volunteer hours during high school?
Drew likely requires 100 volunteer hours to help students grow beyond the classroom. Volunteering teaches responsibility, builds empathy, and connects students with their community. It gives us a chance to develop real-world skills, discover what we care about, and feel the value of contributing to something bigger than ourselves.

How I earned my hours:

• Basketball Team Manager (10th–12th grade): I managed the boys’ basketball team for three years, helping with scheduling, equipment, and support during games. It taught me responsibility, teamwork, and the importance of the behind-the-scenes work that helps a team succeed.

• Helping My Neighbor Phil: I spent time helping my disabled neighbor, Phil, with everyday tasks like taking out the trash, walking his dog, and just being someone to talk to. It reminded me how simple acts of kindness can mean a lot.

• Book Buddies Program: I also participated in Book Buddies, where I read with elementary school students. It was rewarding to help them improve their reading skills and build confidence. Plus, it was fun!
