Orbital sander

The Orbital Saw is used to sand down uneven parts. The Orbital Sander is used to create smooth surfaces. It can be used to sand off varnish.

Stand at an angle
Move in a Circle
Make sure sandpaper isn't worn out
Only sanding uneven parts

4 safety don'ts

Not wearing safety glasses
Stay in the same place for more than 3-5 seconds
Having a loose grip
Sanding inside corners of the box

Biscuit Joiner

The Biscuit Joiner is used to make holes for pieces of wood. These holes connect two or more pieces of wood together with a biscuit(wood).

4 safety do's

Line up the line with even sections
Making sure the Biscuit Joiner is adjacent to the wood piece
Push into the wood while Biscuit Joining.
Starting on the wood

4 safety don'ts

Biscuit Joining both sides of the wood
No safety Glasses
No grip on the metal part
Not lining up the punctures in the wood

Nailgun

The Nailgun is used to insert nails into pieces of wood to keep them in place. This is a more efficient, faster way of using a hammer.

4 safety do's

- Make sure to double check where the nail will go
Make sure nail is in a straight line vertically or horizontally.
Wear eye glasses to protect eyes from loose nails
Shoot nails away from body

4 safety don'ts

Shooting more than 1 nail at a time
No ear protection
Not checking if nailgun is defective
Not disconnecting the compressed air

Wooden Shoebox

Brief- Create a shoebox made of plywood that can be used as storage within the Engineering Class and outside of class Power tools will be used to carry out this task

Research

Tool :1 Bandsaw

We used the bandsaw to cut long pieces of lumber. The bandsaw has its name because the blade revolves around the machine similar to a band. The blade is in the shape of a band.

4 safety do's

Wear Safety Goggles
Use the vacuum
Unplug the machine if no one else is going to use it after you
Pay attention to what you are cutting.

4 Safety dont's

Don't rush when cutting the wood
Don't leave too much of the blade guard open
Don't leave the machine on if nobody is using it
Don't get your hands too close to the blade

Planer Saw

Tool 2; Planer Saw.

The Planer saw is a tool that is used to smooth, flatten out and even out pieces of wood to a certain thickness. In our case, the thickness will be 1/2'

4 Safety don'ts

Not wearing protection
Push wood through the wrong way
Using wood with nails inside
Do not change the depth of the cut while cutting the wood

4 safety do's

Wear Safety Goggles
Wear ear protection
Use ruler to check thickness after cutting.
Make sure to have a firm grip when cutting.

Miter saw

The Miter Saw is used to cut wood. The saw cuts with a 1/8 inch width. This saw has a protective blade guard to protect any limbs near the saw. You use a trigger to start the saw and push the saw forward to cut wood.

4 safety do's

-Use safety googles

-Keep hands away from the blade

-Be careful

-Make a 1/8 inch part in-between cuts.

4 safety don'ts

-Starting cutting on the wood

-Cutting directly on the lines not in-between

-Line up wood in the space under the saw

-Push all the way down when using

This is the bottom of my shoebox design. The thickness of the plywood is 1/2" in. The dimensions are 12 in"(length), 8 in"(width) and 6 in" height.

This is the Lid of my shoebox design. The plywood thickness is 1/8" in. The steps for creating a 3D figure are the following, 1-HL, 2-Vanishing Point, 3-Front, 4-Diagonals, 5-Parallel Lines, 6-Erase, 7- Shade.

Makers Build; Build your own Apron

I used drew's design process with a quick brief overview of the project.

-Next I researched the dimensions I would have to used to create my design.

-For my Idea Development , I searched through masses of different fabrics to find which fabric would suit me the best. I chose a golden fabric with a white inverse side.

- For my prototype I made a rough sketch on how I would make my apron. Then, I used all of my dimensions, cut out all of my fabric into an apron, after that cut out 2 side and 1 neck strap(s) and sewed them together. I had to flip my neck and side strap(s) inside out to make a circular figure. After that I sewed all of my pieces together to produce my final product. I tested my final product by wearing it while doing things that could get messy and get dust and other small remnants on your shirt and my apron had succeed in working.
