My art teacher told us that our photos that we were taking for our professional portfolios were ,in fact, not professional at all. They had people in the background and the quality was poor which took away the main focus of the photo. So we had to take 3 photos that were "more professional" and high quality with a white background. This gave the photo a "studio effect" without actually being in a studio.
I filled out a Solidworks leader application for Engineering and my application was selected. I spent 2 days learning how to use the 2019 Solidworks software with a trained professional from their company. We learned with our laptops and many building exercises. This picture on the right shows a steering wheel that I created on Solidworks
My Engineering teacher took us to the Georgia World Congress Center for the Greenbuild Conference. We got to visit an Expo hall with green and sustainable products/companies. We also got to speak with professionals like engineers who told us how sustainability impacts their career and what they are doing on a personal level for the environment
Los Deportes Proyecto: My Spanish teacher had us make a Spanish video about sports for the end of the unit. The video had to be entirely in Spanish and had to answer all parts of the prompt
Trigonometry PBL: My math teacher had us create a news report about the weather in our favorite city. Then we had to figure out the weather on a beloved holiday of our city using an equation. I was in charge of editing and acting as one of the news anchors

In my AP Language class, after reading Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson, we conducted research on Social Justice issues of our choice to create argumentative papers and creative tasks. For my topic, I chose the psychology behind school shootings because it is a very prevalent topic and the epidemic has greatly impacted the American school system . Throughout my research, I discovered that mental illness may not be the direct cause of school shootings but is definitely a risk factor. The most interesting thing that I found was the similarities and patterns between past school shooters by examining their behavior and profile. We were also visited by Natalyn Archibong, our Atlanta City Council Representative who shared some insights on how these issues are affecting our city and what is being done about it.
After research was concluded, we wrote in depth argumentative papers on the subject. My final position for the paper was that knowing the signs that a potential person in crisis may exhibit, can further prevent school shootings from happening. I supported this position through arguing about the status of gun violence, the mental health label, and the awareness of signs and citing research from sources such as the Sandy Hooks Promise and recent school massacres like Parkland. The paper was very interesting to write, and the most challenging thing was to actually formulate the outline in a way that best exhibits my writing skills.
To complete the project, we were tasked with creating a STEAM product that represented the concepts in my paper and my position. I chose to create a piece of digital media because social media is one of the "signs" that potential school shooters utilize to show their intentions. I first brainstormed and sketched out some ideas and discussed the concept with my peers and English teacher. After their feedback, I made sure to that my piece best conveyed what ideas and key concepts my argumentative paper was trying to portray. In my final product. The purpose of the artwork is to create a platform for awareness and to make sure people are listening to these troubled youth . I incorporated STEAM skills by using evidence/ research to shed some light on a problem and used my skills learned in Art class to make something visually appealing but also achieves depth.
