Dance has been a passion of mine since I was four years old, and from a young age, I knew it was something I truly loved. Although my family faced financial challenges that prevented me from joining dance studios like I had always dreamed of, I never lost that passion. My journey officially began in fourth grade when I was first introduced to dance classes at Drew. I continued in fifth grade but wasn’t able to stay consistent due to different circumstances, including virtual learning during sixth grade and not being enrolled in seventh and eighth grade. Despite those interruptions, my love for dance never faded. Once I entered high school, I fully committed to dance and stayed dedicated to it throughout all four years, using every opportunity to grow and improve.
During my senior year, my dance journey reached a new level through my internship with my dance teacher. In addition to taking dance classes every day, I stepped into a leadership role where I assisted with teaching and supporting underclassmen. I helped choreograph routines, cut music, record videos, and contribute ideas for performances. I focused on being dependable and taking some of the pressure off my teacher by helping with responsibilities behind the scenes. This experience allowed me to grow not only as a dancer, but also as a leader, mentor, and creative thinker. It showed me the importance of responsibility, teamwork, and giving back to a program that has played such a meaningful role in my life.
