Bandsaw Box Project Brief
Tools Safety
After being trained to operate the Bandsaw safely, here are some of the major Do's and Don'ts when operating the bandsaw.
DO:
1. Wear safety goggles
2. Lower the drill
3. Move to wood slowly
DONT:
1. Leave the bandsaw on
2. Leave dust
3. Distract someone while using it
After being trained to operate the Planer safely, here are some major Do's and Don'ts when operating the planer.
DO:
1. Wear safety goggles
2. Wear ear protection
3. Plug in vacuum
DONT:
1. Move the wood past 1/16
2. Put something in it that's not wood
3. Touch the opening with your hand
Miter Saw Safety
We have now learned how to operate the Planer Safely. Here are some major Do's and Don'ts when operating the planer.
DO:
1) Wear safety goggles
2) Unplug the saw when you're not using it
3) Keep your fingers away from the blade
DONT:
1) Reach under the blade while it's spinning
2) Put anything under the blade except the wood
3) Distract others while using it
Practice
We used the miter saw to cut a different piece of wood. I followed the rules of using the miter saw and cut the wood slowly. This was the result
Drawing Practice Single-Point-Perspective (SPP)
This is the first single-point-perspective drawing practice that I did in class. I decided to draw a cube and attempt to put it in single point perspective!
This is the second single-point-perspective drawing practice that I did in class. I followed the instructions in class and wrote the seven rules for drawing in single-point-perspective. After that, I followed each rule carefully, and this was my ending result.
This is the third single-point-perspective drawing that I did in class. For this drawing I drew a simple rectangle and followed each rule located at the top right of my paper.
This is the fourth single-point-perspective drawing that I did in class. For this drawing I drew a unique shape and followed each rule that I had memorized in my head for single-point-perspective.
Bandsaw Box Construction
I planned to use the bandsaw to make my first cuts for the project. We were each given a piece of wood to cut a straight line against using the bandsaw. We were sure to follow each of the rules and do's and don'ts to make our final result successful.
I also worked with the miter saw in class to make a cut on a bigger piece of wood. Instead of using the bandsaw we figured the miter saw would do the job quicker and easier. While doing this I learned more about the Miter saw and how it operates by having a hands on experience using it.
I used the two pieces that I cut using the miter saw and applied wood glue to stick both pieces together. I then added clamps to the pieces to hold the glue together until the next class period.
After I took the clamps off, I was able to successfully assemble the bandsaw box. I did this by using the hand sanders to smoothen out the inside of the box. I then attached the two pieces that I cut using the bandsaw to the ends of the box. This really brought the box together. After that, I made sure to sand the outside of the box to remove any glue that may have been showing.
Bandsaw Box Final Design
On the final day of this project, I decided to work on staining the bandsaw box. I chose which stain I wanted to use and went through the process of staining the bandsaw box. To the right is a picture of my finished bandsaw box.
