Flight Club
Flight Club is a club that was created to promote student involvement and school spirit. I noticed only a small portion of students and staff participated in attending the different sporting events that weren't basketball, track, or golf. So, a peer and I came up with a club that gathered students and staff who wanted to show support for all sports instead of just a handful of them. We created posters and flyers for all sporting events and themed the games so more people would be inclined to go and show school spirit.
National Beta Club
I have been a member of the National Beta Club at my school since my seventh-grade year. In Beta, we do different community service projects around the community and organize various fundraisers to raise money for attending our different events. Every year, we participate in the Beta convention, which is usually located in Savannah, Georgia. At the convention, we compete against different schools also located in Georgia for awards. Every year, I am a part of the dance group that performs, and every year, we place.
Book Buddies
Book Buddies is a group of high schoolers who visit the nearby Drew Charter Elementary School. We are assigned one or two students, sometimes even an entire class, whom we read to. I have been doing this since my sophomore year, and I really enjoy it because it's rare that I get a chance to meet and interact with elementary schoolers.
Volleyball
I was a member of the volleyball team my sophomore year but soon realized it wasn't for me. So, I became the manager, which lasted until the end of my junior year.
Eagles Of Elegance
I was a proud member and captain of the Eagles of Elegance. The Eagles of Elegance is a dance team that performs at every home basketball game. We dance in the stands and during different events such as Senior Night and Homecoming, where we perform during halftime. Additionally, we dance with the seniors during senior walk when going down the hill. I really enjoyed this experience because I have been dancing since I was three years old, and this gave me the opportunity to dance majorette, not just contemporary or jazz.
Mu Alpha Theta
I was recently inducted into the newly offered Mu Alpha Theta. Mu Alpha Theta is a Math Honors society that recognizes students who love math and want to participate in different activities and competitions against other schools related to math. We recently hosted a school-wide activity for Pi Day to see who can recite the most digits of Pi.
Step Up Girls Mentoring
As a member of Step Up, we host different seminars and trips that bond all grades of high school and create a sisterhood. We help around the community by participating in community service opportunities. Some trips we have gone on are to Tennessee to learn about black women's history while also visiting different restaurants to learn about etiquette. We also have different women with various careers come speak to us and tell us about how they got where they are and how the path you want now may not be where you end up in the future because your ideal future can change over time.
East Lake womens Alliance
The East Lake Women's Alliance is a group of women from the East Lake board who come to speak with a designated group of seniors. The main goal is to give us a realistic view and help us set goals and make connections. I've been a member since my junior year, and it has helped me immensely over the course of my senior year because they give me someone to talk to when I'm not sure about my path and provide me with tips and tricks. So far, we have had multiple group meetings where we have discussed goal setting and how we can achieve those goals.
Drew Student Ambassador
As a Drew Student Ambassador, my job is to host tours of the school and attend different Drew events, helping out in any way that I can. Some different events I have been able to be a part of so far include the breakfast with the board, assisting with escorting Career Day volunteers, and the 2023 graduation. I love being a part of this because it gives me the opportunity to make connections and put myself in the same rooms as successful people.
Peer Leadership
Peer Leadership is a class as well as a club that I am happily a part of. As a member of Peer Leadership, I am paired with a group of ninth graders each semester, and my job is to give advice, help them with anything they need in class, and create a fun environment for them to come to every Friday. We've done many fun activities like capture the flag, carving pumpkins, and trying new foods. As a class, we have baked cookies for every Peer Leadership student to thank them for coming and participating because it means a lot to us. I love being a member of this club/class because it gives me a chance to share what I have learned over the years of high school and provide them with my perspectives, hoping they take my advice.
