During Ms. Kleins's Virtual class, we were provided with a physical copy of Purple Hibiscus and we were required to read that as a class virtually while taking down notes.Â
Purple Hibiscus is written by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It tells the story of Kambili, a young Nigerian girl from a wealthy Catholic family whose father, Eugene, is a strict and abusive man. The family's dynamics change when they visit Kambili's aunt, Ifeoma, and her family, who live a much more relaxed and open lifestyle. Through the visit, Kambili begins to question her father's authority and finds her voice. The novel explores themes of family, religion, politics, and personal growth against the backdrop of Nigeria's social and political landscape.
