My name is Roxanne Ashley Garcia (it/its), and I'm a hobbyist artist and writer and aspiring animator and linguist from Atlanta and a student at Drew Charter School. I have a passion for creating weird and elaborate stories with ensemble casts of strange, but realistic characters and detailed, slightly uncanny worlds, and expressing them through the medium of vibrant cartoonish art and tragi-comedic writing. I also study and create constructed languages, sometimes as a part of my larger projects, sometimes just for fun.
Much of my work is inspired by myself, my friends, our experiences and our interests. Some of those interests of mine aside from art, writing and language include western animation, pathology, indie and alternative music genres, medical sciences, entomology and herpetology, weird video games, and extremely niche and often irrelevant trivia. I also own three weird dogs and a half-dozen chickens.
In my free time, I mostly just like to chill out.
Carousels have examples of my art in order of oldest to newest. Click on them! I think they're neat!
In the future, I want to study historical linguistics and constructed languages and work in the animation industry as a character designer, key animator and/or storyboard artist, maybe even become an executive producer for a series of my own. I plan to study at Emory for linguistics and SCAD for an art degree.
Art and animation have been a long-time passion of mine, and I while I am unsure of making a full career out of it, I want it to continue being a major part of my life. For years I have created stories with characters I invented, and my favorite aspects have been writing the stories themselves and designing the people in them, doing my best to depict a wide breadth of experiences based on myself and the people I know. I want to improve at actually finishing artwork I start, and I hope to finish a webcomic someday that tells one of my stories I love most.
Linguistics was a spontaneous passion of mine. I love learning about foreign languages, and learning about the world and its people through those languages over time, and it's fascinating seeing how it evolves and how connected everything is, but how unaware we are of it. The way language is shaped by its environment and users is something I want to observe myself, and I also want to understand the inner workings of language in general.
