Epic Elements Chemistry Research Part 1 9/7/21
My group was given Alkali earth metals and this is our slideshow of our research, they're all shimmery silvery metals that are somewhat reactive.
My partner, Aiswariya, and I made our final stop motion video narrating everything.
I braided a square knot for my friendship bracelet
I chose the colors green and blue, I weaved down and under and and switched when I got to the other side.
In chemistry, we have been discussing the different types of bonds. These bonds include ionic, covalent, and metallic. Covalent bonding is responsible for the bonding of dyes of paints to papers, fabrics, etc. My art shows the covalent molecule of dopamine. I chose to do this because I've never completely understood brain chemicals so I thought it was very interesting. My art includes drawings of brains and dopamine molecules. I created this by first drawing the brains and molecules in a pattern then coloring them in water paint.
I made a wig out of recycled magazine strips with a plastic bag scalp and a braided plarn ornaments. My project benefits the environment by reusing materials that are old or have already been used. Currently i’m using testing and modifications, I put the wig on somebody and see how I can improve it. I made the wig by first cutting out a piece of a plastic bag to be the scalp, I shaped the piece of plastic to a head shape then put magazine onto the plastic to stiffen it, I cut out strings of magazine to be the hair, I stapled the 3 pieces of paper together, finally I tapped the paper to the scalp. The most difficult piece of my project was cutting out the magazine strips just because I didn’t know how much I needed but even then it wasn’t the hardest thing in the world. I feel like this could be improved by making the strips of magazine clippings more even and just have the whole thing not look as chaotic. During the project I learned of the chemistry behind paper making, how to make plarn, and how long plastic take to break down.
My idea was to incorporate my molecule, water, into my project by showing them as stars in the night sky. My Tinkercad model is in the sky acting as stars. I think a lot of design careers see digital tools as good medias and materials to use to make their work. Some examples of careers that use digital tools to create art are animators, environmental modeler, multimedia designer, and 3D modeler. Digital art has opened up a whole other level of creativity that artists can take advantage of and bend to their will.
For my reArtions project I decided to make a sprinkle donut out of clay. In class we learned how to properly handle, work, and score clay. I chose clay as my medium because I thought the chemical reaction between the clay and the kiln was interesting. In the end my donut didn't look as amazing as I had hoped because I didn't add enough pink glaze to it.
My subject for my painting is black lives matter, we’re painting this piece with black, grays, white, and blue. We learned and are now using cubism as our method of painting. Cubism was created by Picasso in 1907 in Paris, France. Picasso used cubism in many of his paintings but his most accomplished cubism painting is in Guernica. Guernica is a huge oil painting done by Picasso during 1937, the painting’s subject was the Spanish Civil War and the effects of it. At first glance the painting is monstrous with faces screaming and just straight chaos, but as you look closer at the chaos you’ll see the lines cutting straight through it with beautiful gradients. Guernica is basically colorless but still conveys such heavy emotions. In our painting you’ll see peace signs, George Floyd, and caution tape being split with heavy black lines. With everything being cut up into pieces it feels like everything is disoriented and chaotic. Adding cubism to our painting definitely added points towards it being very distorted and stressful.
