About Us

DIS Debating Society is an extracurricular club founded four years ago that meets weekly to debate motions using the World Schools Debate style. We welcome participants from grades 7-12 who enjoy engaging in lively discussions and are passionate about arguing current issues, philosophical concepts, and ethical matters. Our club develops debaters' rhetorical and argumentative skills through fun and engaging interactive activities. Participating in friendly and formal debating competitions allows our team members to improve their skills, challenge themselves, and meet debaters from other schools.

Our Meeting Times:

School Year 2022-23

WEEK A 14:45 - 16:30: MYP

WEEK B 15:45 - 17:00: DP

Leonhard Fuchs:

"The Debating Society helped me develop my public speaking skills immensely, especially the competitions were helpful but also an excellent time to bond with my peers. Being extremely stressed minutes before the debate lets you think on the spot and roll up a top performance. I can not put in words the feeling I had during competitions. I will never forget this experience and I am grateful to have been a part of the start of DIS Debating Society."

Ariadna Pushkina:

"From its very establishment, the DIS Debating Society has proven itself a most fruitful environment for the development of uncompromising rhetorical prowess, intellectual stimulation, and enriching discussion. Having been a member of the team for more than three years has been an invaluable experience because now, we frequently reminisce on the seemingly exponential development of our debating skills engendered by both, triumphs and defeats (particularly ones experienced in Sweden and Prague). Anyone keen on becoming an orator as feared and esteemed as the Sophists (albeit argumentatively stronger) should most certainly join! "
