Below are a few questions that we are commonly asked.

● When will my first application occur, and how often can I expect applications?
● We try to service new customers promptly, so in most cases your initial application will occur within 2 weeks of signing up for services. Sometimes we experience delays (usually from weather) but rest assured that our intention is to get to you as soon as possible.
● Frequency of applications depends on the service and / or turf type.
● Fescue lawns will generally receive TurfCare applications monthly from Sept - Nov / Dec and roughly every 5 - 8 weeks from Jan - Aug. Disease & Turf Insect Control apps occur monthly from Apr - Aug / Sept for customers on this service. Aeration & Seeding occurs yearly normally in Sept or Oct.
● Summer lawns will generally receive TurfCare applications monthly from May / Jun - Aug / Sept and roughly every 5 - 8 weeks from Oct - Apr. Disease & Turf Insect Control apps occur monthly from Apr - Aug / Sept for customers on this service. Spring Aeration & Compost occurs yearly normally in May or June. Bermuda Growth Regulator apps occur monthly from May / Jun - Aug.
● Mosquito Control apps generally occur monthly from Apr - Oct.
● Flea & Tick and Perimeter Pest control apps occur 4 times per year, roughly once per quarter.
● Plant Healthcare applications begin in March or April each year (depending on temperatures and insect activity) and occur again in May, June, July, Aug, Nov & Dec.
● How long will it take to build my Dreamlawn?
● It generally takes 2 - 3 years to build a high quality lawn from scratch, presuming that all of the lawn's needs are met. Please see the page for your specific turf type for an outline of these needs. It may take more or less time, depending on the conditions on your property.
● How should I mow or water my lawn?
● Mowing & watering recommendations are specific for each turf type. Please see the page for your turf. Our recommendations are general guidelines based on current research and best practices. The specific needs of your lawn may differ slightly, so please contact us with any questions.
● Will fertilizer cause my bermuda/zoysia/St. Augustine to stay green over winter?
● No. These grasses are not capable of staying green over winter in Hampton Roads. Fertilizers will not change that and over fertilizing in fall, winter or early spring will fuel disease and can harm our waterways. The applications that we apply to them during dormant periods will help them to resist disease and keep weeds under control. If you would like your lawn green over winter, we can apply perennial or transitional ryegrass to bermuda or zoysia lawns.
● What can I expect from my TurfCare apps?
● During each application your technician will start by knocking on your door (unless you've asked us to refrain from knocking) and go over today's application. They'll complete the application to your lawn using properly calibrated equipment (the process is usually far quicker than most people realize: A 5,000 sq-ft lawn should take about 5 minutes) for either liquid or granular products. After the application is complete they'll blow product off of any hard surfaces (if needed), leave you a card noting what we did and detailing any concerns that they found. Finally they'll leave a sign in your lawn & record today's applications (including areas of concern) in our mobile app.
● You should see any broadleaf weeds in your twisting or curling in about 5 days with death occurring in 7 - 14 days. Please call us if weeds linger. Be sure to mow properly for effective weed control.
● The process might differ slightly with other types of applications, but in general your technician will follow the steps outlined above.
● How long should I wait to let out my dog after an application?
● Your dog can go outside as soon as a liquid application is dry. Typically that is about 45 minutes for blanket lawn applications, or 20 - 30 min for mosquito, flea or tick barrier spray applications. Granular applications or In2Care mosquito station services have no wait time, so your dog can go outside right away.
● How soon after an application can I mow or water my lawn / What happens if it rains after an application?
● In general a lawn can be mowed as soon as a liquid application has dried, and there is no wait time for mowing after granular applications.
● Both granular & liquid turf applications will generally benefit from being watered, and in fact some products actually require activation by watering soon after an application.
● No product that we apply will be adversely affected by rain or irrigation once dry, which typically takes about 45 minutes.
● When should I call Dreamlawns?
● Call us asap if you see any signs of lawn damage (including, browning, yellowing, matted or dying patches), issues with your shrubbery (including yellowing or browning leaves, deformed leaves or branches, black mold covering leaves or bark or lack of leaves on the plant) or if you're being bitten by mosquitos, fleas or ticks. Also call us if you have a really good recipe for smoked brisket.
