I'm thrilled that your student has decided to attend the 2018 Wisconsin DECA Sports & Entertainment Marketing Conference. This year the conference will be held in Milwaukee, WI where attendees will hear from industry professionals at the opening session, tour the Fiserv Forum, and attend engaging workshops all within the Fiserv Forum. Students will have an insider’s perspective from these activities as they become the living classroom to complement the lessons from conference speakers.
By now, your student should have let you know that they must sign a Wisconsin DECA Code of Conduct to participate in any DECA events this school year. In case they haven't mentioned it yet, the form is available here: Wisconsin DECA Student Code of Conduct. Students will not be permitted to enter the conference at the Fiserv Form until this is signed, so please fill this out as soon as possible, and by December 1st at the latest. You will only need to sign this once during this school year, regardless of the number of Wisconsin DECA events your student participates in. (If you student attended the Emerging Leaders Conference they do not need to do this again). I have no doubts that all students who attend this event will represent Dodgeville with poise and professionalism. Should there be any major behavior issues on the trip, any offenders will sit out of the remainder of the conference/game and one of the chaperones or I will make contact with you and ask you to come pick up your student from Milwaukee.
Your student's registration fee covered the following:
3.5 hours of general and breakout sessions, including with representatives of the Milwaukee Bucks and Fiserv forum
One meal (dinner at Venue 42)
Tickets to the Milwaukee Bucks vs Detroit Pistons basketball game
Transportation to and from Milwaukee
Conference t-shirt
We will plan to depart at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, December 5. We will stop for lunch along the way. Students should bring $10 - $15 for lunch or a sack lunch. Dinner at Venue 42 is included with the registration fee. We will plan to leave Milwaukee by 10:00 PM, hopefully earlier, after the Milwaukee Bucks game. We will return to DHS very late that evening.
All students will receive a conference tshirt upon arrival at the Fiserv Forum. Wisconsin DECA requires that students wear this shirt visibly throughout the conference as well as at the Bucks game. Students should wear something they can change out of and into the conference tshirt quickly. Students may wear jeans or khaki or other professional pants or skirts. Athletic apparel (sweatpants, mesh shorts etc.) are prohibited. Sneakers are allowed.
This conference will reinforce concepts taught in classes that include sports and entertainment marketing. Marketing executives will share information with students to help them:
• Describe the nature of target marketing in sports/entertainment marketing
• Describe pricing issues associated with sports/entertainment products
• Explain advertising media used in the sports/entertainment products
• Explain career opportunities in sports/entertainment marketing
• Identify “out-of-the-box” sales promotion ideas for sports/entertainment events
• Measure economic impact of sports/entertainment events
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Sincerely,
Allison Carroll
