Congratulations on your student advancing to the Wisconsin DECA State Career Development Conference (SCDC)! This is a huge honor, and your student should know that their hard work and dedication has paid off! SCDC will be held in Lake Geneva, WI March 4 - 6, 2019. SCDC is packed with opportunities for students to compete, attend general and breakout sessions, be recognized for everything they've done both individually and as a chapter this year, and build their network of members from around the state.
DHS Students at SCDC 2018
In order to secure their spot to SCDC 2019, your student must do the following by January 21. If these three items are not received, spots will go to the next eligible member.
Select a competitive event and sign up in Classroom
Return their permission slip
Pay a $50 deposit (if not covered by prior fundraising)
All attendees and their parent/guardian must also fill out the Wisconsin DECA Student Code of Conduct as soon as possible. It is available here. If your student attended the Emerging Leaders Conference or Sports & Entertainment Marketing Conference you will not need to fill this out again.
The cost of the conference is $200. This includes:
Conference registration
Two nights at the Grand Geneva Hotel
Two meals (dinner Monday and Tuesday nights)
Transportation to and from Lake Geneva
Conference t-shirt
This price DOES NOT include other meals (more info below).
A $50 deposit is due by 1/21 to secure spots to SCDC.
We will be holding a "Coffee & Donuts" fundraiser between February 1 - 8 to raise money for SCDC.
Remaining balance for SCDC ($150) is due on February 12 either by check to DHS DECA or via fundraising. If students fundraise the full $200, the $50 deposit and any additional funds will be applied toward future events.
Students should arrive at DHS on March 4 no later than 7:00 AM for a required administrator luggage search. We will depart by 7:30 AM.
Two dinners are included in the conference fee. Attendees should either bring food or money for lunch on Monday and Tuesday, breakfast on Tuesday and Wednesday, and money for lunch at a fast food restaurant on the way home on Wednesday. There are no microwaves available. We will return by 5:00 PM on the 6th.
SCDC turns competition up a notch from previous events. Students should plan to spend a significant amount of time between now and the conference learning Performance Indicators, taking online tests (must complete TWO at a minimum), and creating visuals, and practicing their project presentations if they did one. Competition prep will be held during Advisory on Fridays and potentially before and after school as well.
I'm really looking forward to attending the State Career Development Conference with your student this March. I will provide more details on the conference after all registration materials have been received and I have more conference details. In the meantime, feel free to contact me with questions!
Any student who attends SCDC with Dodgeville DECA is eligible to attend the International Career Development Conference. Tens of thousands of students from around the world will descend on Orlando April 26-30 to demonstrate their college and career knowledge and skills by participating in DECA’s Competitive Events Program. In addition, thousands of members participate in DECA’s Emerging Leader Series to attain 21st Century Skills in the areas of collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity. Attendees will also have the opportunity to attend the exclusive DECA Night at Universal Studios and get special packages to Walt Disney World.
The top six winners in each DECA event, regardless of grade, automatically qualify for the International Career Development Conference (ICDC).
Winners who qualify in both a written event and role play choose which event they want to take to ICDC.
As a THRIVE Level High-Achieving Chapter we have already secured six spots to the THRIVE Leadership Academy at ICDC.
THRIVE spots will be allocated to any SCDC attendee who does not qualify to compete (using the DHS DECA points system)
Once all six THRIVE spots have been allocated, other SCDC attendees may apply to Wisconsin DECA to attend the other Emerging Leaders Series Academies (Ignite, Elevate, and Aspire).
All SCDC students will be required to fill out applications to the Emerging Leaders Series Academies prior to departure, so that these can be turned into Wisconsin DECA Staff after the general awards session on Wednesday. We have never had an issue with Dodgeville students being accepted into these Academies.
