Course Offerings

Beginning Dance: An Introductory Level Course. No Prerequisite.

Intermediate Dance: An Enhanced Level Course. Prerequisite Beginning Dance (C Average or Higher) or Audition with Instructor. Must attend afterschool rehearsals and performances.

Proficient Dance (Honors): A Higher Level Honors Course, Prerequisite Beginning and Intermediate Dance, B Average or Higher. Teacher Recommendation. Must attend afterschool rehearsals and performances.

Advanced Dance (Honors): Highest Level Honors Course. Prerequisite Beginning, Intermediate and Proficient Theatre Dance. A or B Average. Teacher Recommendation. Must attend afterschool rehearsals and performances.

Bernadine Prince

Mrs. Prince has trained in an array of styles ranging from hip hop, commercial dance, classical ballet, jazz and modern. She has over 19 years of teaching and performance experience in Durham Public Schools. She first received her training in modern dance from North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem and went on to receive her degree in Dance Education with K-12 licensure at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Bernadine is currently the director of NC Underground, an organization that focuses on providing quality training, education, and performance opportunities for dancers of all socieconomic backgrounds and promotes networking amongst aspiring professional dancers in the state of NC. She is the dance director for the performing arts department at Southern School of Energy and Sustainability where she enjoys teaching and giving back to the community. Mrs. Prince has taught in studios and schools across the state where she is is a regular and guest teacher and choreographer. She enjoys teaching and performing and strives to push not only her students but herself to the next level. A performer herself, she also has experience in the entertainment industry. Her experience includes concert stage, appearances in film/television, and live stage performances with various artists.
