The AVID Elective curriculum is based on rigorous standards and extensive research to give students the absolute best teaching practices. We use the AVID curriculum in both our AVID Elective classes and in our content courses.
The content will change each year as students continue to grow in their knowledge but the basic structures will remain the same.
Two days per week students will receive instruction and activities in the AVID Curriculum. They will learn research and study skills and practice their inquiry, writing, and reading skills.
Two days per week students have tutorials with their peers, upperclassmen, and college students supervised by the AVID teacher. This allows them to receive the support they need in their academic classes and to build their collaboration skills.
One day per week students have support and enrichment opportunities. This may include binder checks, field trips, guest speakers, team building activities, or community service opportunities.
WICOR is the framework for all AVID classes. It stands for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading
This proven structure helps students build routines so they know strategies to use for success in all their classes.
WICOR promotes students becoming experts in their content which helps their academic confidence and serves them in their learning beyond high school.
