Freshman Year: Agriscience Applications
Sophomore Year: Level 1 course (either Animal Science I, Sustainable Agriculture I, or Horticulture I)
Junior Year: Level 2 course
i.e., you took Horticulture I your sophomore year, you would take Horticulture II your junior year
Senior Year: Capstone course depending on your pathway. Please see the progression lines for which senior courses are available depending on the student's selected agriculture pathway.
All pathway students are expected to do the following to maintain their pathway/magnet status. Failure to do these may result in dismissal from the program and students being sent back to their base school.
Take 1 agriculture course each school year.
Maintain good academic standing in ALL courses (C or better).
Maintain good attendance in ALL courses (minimal absences and/or tardies).
Maintain good behavior (no office referrals).
Students will learn and demonstrate proper animal handling. Students will understand the U.S. food system and our role in the global agricultural economy. Identify the various species of livestock and companion animals as well as breeds. Discuss the modern methods utilized in today’s animal industry and the socio-ethical issues surrounding such practices.

Animal Science I focuses on livestock animals: breeds, cuts of meat, their production method, and animal welfare.
Animal Science II - Companion Animal focuses on pet animals: breeds, care, anatomy, and diseases.
This pathway provides instruction on plant growth & development, plant identification, developing a deep understanding of basic horticultural principles and practices, identifying landscape and floral design principles, and further developing their knowledge of overall plant production. Students in these courses have the unique work-based learning opportunity to work in our school greenhouse on campus.

Horticulture I focuses on factors that can impact general plant processes, growth, and development- with an emphasis on soil health, plant nutrition, and diseases. Students will also learn basic plant identification.
Horticulture II focuses on general plant production practices- including greenhouse and nursery management, floriculture, and fruit production. Students will earn the BASF Plant Science credential through iCEV by the end of the course.
This pathway focuses on the increasingly complex world of producing enough food and fiber to meet the growing world demand. Students will explore implementing environmentally sound practices in agricultural production to satisfy the needs of a growing population for today and tomorrow.

Sustainable Agriculture I focuses heavily on sustainable practices in different areas of agriculture.
Sustainable Agriculture II pushes students to apply the material learned in Sustainable 1 to create sustainable plans related to energy, technology, marketing, and more.
Advanced Studies is a semester-long research-based course. This is an excellent course for students looking to enter a 4-year university.
This course is available to all pathway seniors.
CTE Internship AGNR is a yearlong course that allows students to complete an internship (paid or unpaid) at an agricultural site. Students must earn a minimum of 120 hours.
This course is available to all pathway seniors.
Horticulture II- Floriculture is a semester-long course that allows students to dive into the world of floral design. Students will earn the Benz School of Floral Design credential through iCEV by the end of the course.
This course is only available to pathway seniors who have complete Horticulture I and II.
Veterinary Assisting Honors is a yearlong course that allows students to intern at a veterinary clinic with the end goal of certifying as a Level I Veterinary Assistant. Students must earn a minimum of 300 hours at their worksite.
This course is only available to pathway seniors who have complete Animal Science I and II.
