Hi!

I am so excited to begin this school year with your kiddos. My journey at Trevista began seven years ago as a student teacher, and since then, I've had the pleasure of teaching 2nd grade. I am a proud Mexican/American and my parents are from Puebla, Mexico. I cherish embracing my own culture and celebrating the diverse cultures of my students. I graduated from the University of Colorado Denver as the first in my family to earn a degree—a milestone I'm incredibly proud of.  When I’m not working, I love spending time with my family, friends, and my dog! I enjoy traveling and exploring new places.

Estoy muy emocionada de comenzar este año escolar con sus hijos. Mi viaje en Trevista comenzó hace siete años como maestra en practica y, desde entonces, he tenido el placer de enseñar segundo grado. Soy orgullosamente Mexicana/Americana, mis padres son de Puebla, México. Aprecio mi propia cultura y celebrar las diversas culturas de mis estudiantes. Me gradué de la Universidad de Colorado en Denver y fui la primera de mi familia en obtener un título, un hito del que estoy increíblemente orgullosa. Cuando no estoy trabajando, me encanta pasar tiempo con mi familia, amigos, y mi perrito. Disfruto viajar y explorar nuevos lugares.

Unit 3: Kids Excel (Spelling Alternatives & Nouns)

• Focus: Introduces new vowel spelling alternatives and tricky spellings (one spelling that makes multiple sounds, like "o").

• Reading: Decodable reader Kids Excel.

• Grammar & Writing: Capitalization, punctuation, common/proper nouns, synonyms/antonyms.

Unit 4: The Job Hunt (Tricky Spellings & Verbs)

• Focus: Explores further vowel spelling alternatives and tricky spellings like "y".

• Reading: Decodable reader The Job Hunt.

• Grammar & Writing: Action verbs, "to be" verbs, singular/plural nouns (including irregular plurals).

Unit 5: Sir Gus (Multi-Syllable Words & Adjectives)

• Focus: Teaches the schwa sound and chunking phonemes to decode multi-syllable words.

• Reading: Decodable reader Sir Gus.

• Grammar & Writing: Identifying adjectives, subjects, and predicates in sentences.

Unit 6: The War of 1812

• Focus: Final unit focusing on historical content decoding and complex sentence structure.

• Grammar & Writing: Distinguishing complete/incomplete sentences, fixing run-ons.
