Fourth Grade Extensions

Hello everyone! This is your place for challenging third grade extensions for your advanced kiddos. I will be posting new ones each week. Feel free to peruse and find what works best for your kids! They can email me any time with comments, questions, or ideas.

Word Problem Extensions: For many of these questions you will need critical thinking skills and you want to start by making a table and or make an assumption to start with. Please email me your answers!

1. Mr. Shutts bought 4 identical basketballs and 5 identical volleyballs for $230. Each basketball was $8 more expensive than a volleyball. Find the cost of each basketball and each volleyball.

2. There are 30 questions on a math test. All questions must be answered. 5 points are awarded for every correct answer. 2 points will be deducted for a wrong answer. If Amy scores 122 points, how many questions does she answer correctly?

3. There were 100 adults and children altogether. An adult could consume 3 buns while 3 children could only finish one bun. If 100 buns were consumed, how many adults were there?

4. Lamp posts are placed at regular intervals of 30 meters along a 1,800 meter road. If the lamps posts are placed at opposite ends of the road, how many are placed along the entire road?

5. Write a story problem about your life during online learning during the Corona Virus Era.
