Water Quality Testing

To support the classroom expedition of Water around the World, students went on Field Work to Berkeley Lake to explore the quality of their local water. Using a variety of tools, students looked for organisms to indicate if Berkeley Lake is healthy. One strategy is to find macroinvertebrates in the lake. If we find more macroinvertebrates in Group 1 or Group 2, that indicates higher water quality. (Click on the photos to the left to see more scientists at work)

How do we know if water is clean? We can check the quality using chemical tests and looking for macroinvertebrates. Mr. Donny shows us how to do these water tests.

Looking for Macroinvertebrates

Spring 2022

In March, 4th and 5th grade students spent time at the lake to connect their Natural Disasters expeditions. Students discovered different areas around the lake that prevent flooding in our neighborhood. Addtionally, students did simple temperature tests to see if the lake would make a safe home for our trout.
