Here we will share the interviews we have with teachers!
Keller:
Interviewer: How would you describe your teaching style?
Keller: I would say that I am pretty regimented and that I have an agenda everyday. So my teaching style is pretty regimented and organized and that I like to add fun and stories to real life so they can realize what I am teaching is important.
Interviewer: How has your teaching style changed over time?
Keller: I used to stick with my lesson plans, but now I go to the pace of the students.
Interviewer: What does successful classroom management look like to you?
Keller: Probably would be kids engaging in the lesson, they would be helping other kids, and they would be showing understanding. That's how I know I’m doing my job and managing the class.
Interviewer: What do you do when a student is having a bad day?
Keller: So when a student is having a bad day the first thing I think of is, "Okay, what can we do to solve this problem?" because they can't learn until their problems are solved.
Interviewer: How do you create a classroom environment where students feel safe and included?
Keller: I think in the beginning of the year, I goes over student norms, talk about Ohana and correct negative comments. If a student is having a bad day, I say the rest of the day will be successful. Once a student was crying and another gave her a piece of gum.
Interviewer: How do you communicate with parents or guardians, especially when addressing challenges?
Keller: Well, usually if it's like in an email I try to start with something positive about the student like "I really liked 'Billy's' questions the other day. He is always creative and good at thinking out of the box, but he blurted out something inappropriate earlier."
