Your wellbeing is fundamental to your overall health, the way you learn, the way you face challenges and the way you achieve. Wellbeing is lifelong and will continue to grow and change as you journey through the rollercoaster of life. Your past and present experiences can all impact your mental, emotional, spiritual, physical and social wellbeing. It is therefore important that you look after you practise SELF -CARE and look after your wellbeing.
Many students often find it difficult to manage the demands of studying, especially in times of remote learning and self isolation. There are a number of things you can do to look after your wellbeing.
Sleep - Remember your body needs about 6-8 hours sleep each night to function properly. The brain needs to rest and revitalise. A good habit is to turn off all digital devices at least 30 minutes before you go to bed.
Eat Healthy and Balanced Meals and drink lots of water. Healthy foods, such as fresh fruit, will keep you feeling good. Junk food will only fill you craving for a short time and then will leave you feeling sluggish.
Exercise - regular exercise can keep the stress levels down.
Take Brain Breaks - take breaks to refuel, take a rest and move around.. Give yourself time to complete your work
Journal - Keeping a journal, in particular a gratitude journal, writing a list of things that you are thankful for. This will help you to stay positive.
Practice meditation and relaxation techniques. This is a great way to build self awareness and manage stressors as you study.
Set your self realistic goals - SMART Goals. Make them Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely
Stay connected to your friends and family - get support from the people around you.
Meditation is a great way to exercise the brain and at the same time take a break. It can help you deal with stress and negative emotions and it rewires the brain to become more self aware and create more positive traits such as focus and drive. Meditation can help reduce the levels of depression and anxiety.
