Q) Is my child’s health in danger by sending them to school?
Catholic Schools in NSW remain safe environments for both students and teachers. Regular cleaning, increased hygiene practices amongst students and teachers as well as social distancing measures are all contributing to your child’s advanced wellbeing.
Q) Are there measures in place to protect teachers from becoming infected with COVID-19 in the workplace?
Less students in school allows for smaller class sizes. Staggered start and finish times for periods and for recess and lunch also assist with social distancing. Staff are also being advised to not congregate in staffrooms and similar areas of the school. Students and staff are also being provided increased supplies of hand sanitiser and soaps.
Q) Can we have confirmation that schools are remaining open for children of essential services workers from Monday?
Catholic Schools in NSW will continue to remain open at all school operational times for families who need to send their children to school.
Q) What date can we expect our kids to go back to school?
Catholic education will use term two to transition to in-school delivery of learning, subject to the ongoing health advice and the wellbeing of our students and staff. It is envisaged the first two weeks of Term Two will mirror the end of Term One with out of-school learning continuing. Thereafter, judgements and decisions at a school and System level will be put in place to allow for the continued assessment of the needs of their students. The senior secondary years, year 11 and 12, will have their circumstances considered as a priority and are likely candidates for an earlier return to school.
Q) Can we choose to continue to home school or do we have to send our kids back?
Parents will continue to be informed at a school and system level as to when the determination has been made that students should return to face-to-face learning in a full-time capacity. There is currently no obligation to send your child back to school and students will not be punished academically for not learning via the face-to-face method.

Within your child's class page you will find a link to the teacher's email. If contacting a teacher/s via email please be mindful that you may not receive a response immediately. We encourage that this communication please remain positive and professional, this is not the forum for negative comments. It can be used for seeking clarification, yet its main purpose is for teachers to provide direct feedback on student work.
A family roster may need to be implemented to share the device between your children. Some tasks do require internet while others do not. Learning tasks can be handwritten into a learning journal that can be photographed and later uploaded onto the class page. Ensure that the device is fully charged at the end of every day. Patience is the key.
We understand that there will be times when online learning cannot be completed. If your child is unwell, please allow them time to rest and recover . The learning platform is progressive and will allow you to review missed work if you wish.
It is an expectation that students engage in online learning and attempt the daily schedule to the best of their ability. If all work is unable to be completed on the set day, there is flexibility for students to catch up in a time that suits your family and circumstances. Presently, if there is work that your child is unable to complete, please set it aside and work on a different task.

During a period of isolation and change, it is understandable that your child may be feeling unmotivated and disengaged. This is a good time for self compassion and compassion for others. Talk to your child about how they are feeling and reassure them that these feelings are natural. Physical movement and fresh air can assist in positive wellbeing. Believe in something bigger than yourself; God is with you. Spend time with those who you love and those who love you. Your child and your own well being is paramount to creating a positive learning environment.
