The Basic Skills Instruction (BSI) Program is a supplemental instructional program for Language Arts Literacy. Instruction is provided through a pull-out support and push-in program where the instruction is diagnostic, prescriptive, and individualized.
The goal of BSI is to provide support in a small group setting. Students must meet admission criteria to be eligible for BSI and their progress is monitored and reported using iReady Growth Monitoring Assessments as well as Teacher Generated Assessments. Enrollment in the program is reevaluated as needed.
The ELA BSI program is designed to remediate skill deficits in reading, decoding, reading comprehension, and written language. In this program, students receive additional support to learn skills and strategies within the regular education program to help them achieve success. This supplemental program recognizes individual learning differences and strives to build student’s competence and confidence.
Students enrolled in BSI will receive a minimum of 30 minutes of Basic Skills Instruction one time per week. This additional instruction will take place during the school day.
