Overview: Welcome to U.S. History II! In this course, we will continue our journey through American history by exploring the people, events, ideas, and conflicts that have shaped the United States from the late 19th century to the present. Building on the foundation established in U.S. History I, we will examine how our nation has changed over time and how the past continues to influence the world we live in today. My goal is to make history meaningful, engaging, and connected to the world around us.
Technology: The Dover Public School District recognizes the use of technology as an integral component of every student’s education. As the district acknowledges the importance of providing the student with experiences that model “real life” use of technology in society and the workplace, student use of technology on a regular basis in all disciplines and at all grade levels is encouraged and supported. Technology skills are not taught in isolation, but rather infused into the U.S. History I & II and World History curriculum providing students with activities and authentic interdisciplinary projects that address the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) in Social Studies and other disciplines. Student achievement and growth are measured through performance-based assessment. In addition to increasing higher-order thinking skills and creativity, these technology-infused projects provide students with the opportunity to work collaboratively. The ethical use of technology and online safety is promoted in numerous ways and is constantly modeled by the classroom teacher. Every student has a Gmail account, an individual login and home directory that provides individual storage space. Throughout the 2026-2027 school year, each actively enrolled student is issued a laptop or iPad and charging cord, courtesy of Dover Public Schools for the express purpose of completing school work. Students are responsible for maintaining these items and returning them in the same condition in which they were received. Students are expected to bring their charged laptop/iPad and charging cord to class each day.
Twenty-First (21st) Century Skills: The digital age has transformed social studies education, allowing 21st-century learners to transcend the limits of time and place and experience historic events virtually. By expanding their learning networks through online collaboration with experts and other students from around the world, New Jersey social studies students develop an increased depth of understanding of our global society. At the same time, their understanding of the fundamental principles and values of American democracy and citizenship provides the conceptual framework that allows them to make informed decisions about local, national, and international issues and challenges.
