As part of its 4th Founding Anniversary celebration, Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) lit up the night of May 27 with a powerful Cultural Night themed “Pagyabong: Blooming through Adversities.” Held at the DOrSU Gymnasium, the event showcased a stunning blend of tradition, creativity, and community spirit.

Spearheaded by Dr. Arvin A. Andacao and brought to life by BPED students, the performances celebrated the university's journey through movement, music, and storytelling — honoring heritage while embracing growth. From indigenous dances to modern fusions, the night echoed with pride and unity.

President Dr. Roy G. Ponce praised the event as a reflection of DOrSU’s diverse yet united identity. More than a show, the Cultural Night served as a heartfelt reminder of the strength and resilience that define the DOrSU community.

In celebration of its 4th Founding Anniversary, Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) hosted a dynamic team building activity that brought together faculty and staff for a day of fun, collaboration, and connection. Held across campus and natural venues, the event featured games, challenges, and reflective moments that reinforced unity and showcased the dedication behind DOrSU’s continued success.

More than just a break from routine, the activity highlighted the heart of the university — its people. Through teamwork, creativity, and camaraderie, the celebration reminded everyone that DOrSU’s excellence is powered by the passion and unity of its educators and staff.

New Measures: Transparency, Dialogue at Core of DOrSU Student Parliament Agenda

In a continued effort to promote open communication and student empowerment, Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) held its 4th Student Parliament on May 28, 2025, led by the University Student Council (USC).

Student leaders, administrative officials, and faculty governors gathered to discuss important issues on student rights, safety, academic privileges, and event-related concerns. University offices directly addressed the student body’s questions, offering clarifications, actions, and long-term solutions.

One key topic was the delayed distribution of FBM SIGLAKAS T-shirts, to which FBM Governor Alberto Magadan Jr. issued a public apology and confirmed a refund process for those affected. The matter is currently under further investigation.

Other concerns included sanctions for event absences, with USC and OSA officials emphasizing that these are based on existing policies in the student handbook and are implemented to encourage participation and fair accountability.

While the anticipated presentation of the university uniform and student handbook was postponed, Dr. Evangeline Rivera assured students that the uniform will be implemented next school year, and official updates on the handbook will follow soon.

This year’s Parliament reaffirmed the university’s commitment to transparency, student welfare, and meaningful dialogue.

Unveiling Mindanao's Soul: Literature Festival Celebrates Heritage, Identity

Students from various programs enrolled in the Lit 10: Literatures in Mindanao course, gathered at the University Gymnasium for a literature festival with the theme, “Interlacing Mindanao's Cultural Heritage and Identity Through Its Literature,” on April 30, 2025.

Cheers filled the gymnasium as the festival launched with a spirited parade featuring student banner entries and the dazzling array of the Character Cosplay competition participants.

The university grounds blossomed into a vibrant display of unity and advocacy last Wednesday, April 30, as Bachelor of Science in Special Needs Education (BSNEd) students orchestrated a powerful "blue parade," the official color of autism awareness.

Accompanied by the lively tunes of the DOrSU Marching Band (DMB), the procession marked the spirited commencement of a day-long celebration dedicated to cultivating understanding and championing the acceptance of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
