Dear Parents/ Guardians,
I hope everybody is keeping safe and well. Covid 19 measures still need to be followed. Parents are asked to wear face masks when collecting children and please do not congregate at the school gates.
Anti- Bullying : The school community of Doon C.B.S. Primary believes that each pupil has a right to an education free from fear and intimidation.
The school regards bullying as a serious infringement of individual rights and a serious threat to the self-esteem and self-confidence of targeted pupil(s). Therefore it does not tolerate bullying of any kind.
All staff members strive to cultivate an environment free from bullying. Over the last few weeks there has been a lot of work covered around bullying. Congratulations to our poster winners and well done to all pupils for participating. Remember , ‘Be kind, words don’t rewind’.
Maths Week 2021 : Well done to all pupils and parents who used their Maths Eyes in the environment. We received some very clever projects.
The standard of clock creations in 2nd class was phenomenal.
3rd and 4th class created wonderful shoebox monsters using 2d and 3d shapes.
5th and 6th class were set the challenge of creating a Maths Board Game using Mental Maths questions. The standard is so high that we are considering getting some of the games made commercially for sale!
Mangahigh was undoubtedly the highlight of the week with individual pupils earning a whopping two hundred medals. Well done to all.
Thanks to all parents for supporting your son with these worthwhile projects.
Basketball classes will commence for all classes every Friday after the Mid Term Break. There is no cost to the pupils as the Parents Association are subsidising it.
Cycling Safety classes will commence on Tuesday November 2nd for pupils in 5th and 6th class. Pupils are asked to bring their own bike and helmet if they have one. If they don’t the instructor will have a supply of bikes and helmets.
Picker Pals- 2nd class pupils will be taking part in the Picker Pals environmental programme. Picker Pals develops children’s awareness and community responsibility around the issue of litter.
CLASS Teaching hours: The DES have sanctioned our school with extra hours to help bridge the gaps in the pupils' learning. In consultation with the staff we have decided to give each classroom an equal amount of time three times a week for seven weeks commencing after the Mid Term Break. This extra in class support will focus primarily on literacy and numeracy. It will be completed by Mr. Ring, an experienced teacher. I would ask all parents to take an active role in your son's education and to ensure all homework is completed to the best of your son's ability.
School Coat and Hat: Pupils are asked to wear the school coat and hat as the days are getting colder. The school hat can be purchased from Audrey for €5. Please ensure your son's name is clearly labelled on it.
Class Payments: Many thanks for the prompt payment from most families. I would ask those with outstanding balances to please pay as much as you can at this time.

Student Leaders: Best of luck to our student leaders who were nominated by their classmates to represent their class. Our first meeting took place yesterday and we are delighted with the positive ideas and attitudes of these pupils. We look forward to working with them for the coming year. Their first project is tomorrow where they have organised a class DVD in each room where pupils can enjoy a movie and some treats. Pupils are asked to bring a small donation for Pieta House.
