The Atlas project was launched in Savannah, GA in April 2024
During the launch meeting, people who care about seafood systems, local communities & cultures, and the environment came together to begin discussing why, what, how, and who are the elements of an Atlas for Values-Based Aquaculture. This gathering was led by the North American Marine Alliance and GRACE Communications Foundation, a private foundation that fights industrial food system models - both on land and at sea.
Now, a Core Team leads the design, methodology, outreach, and communications of the Atlas creation. The North American Marine Alliance (NAMA), Sandolo Consulting, State Innovation Exchange (SiX), and Inland Ocean Coalition (IOC) are all collaborating on this process. An Advisory Council provides specific input and expertise. The Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future provides science advising and technical assistance through the support of Liz Nussbaumer. Additionally, Resource Media provides communications support and direction. This project is wholly funded by private foundations.
